Comcast cable is typically a package of television channels, and sometimes comes bundled with internet for a household. If you are moving, changing your service, or getting rid of your television (imagine that!), the steps below are listed for cancelling your Comcast account.
To get started on cancelling your Comcast cable account, you will need your:
- Comcast account number
- Email address on file with Comcast
- Password on file with Comcast
- Your full name on file with Comcast
- Your phone number on file with Comcast
- Last four digits of the credit card number Comcast bills (for account verification with Comcast)
- Full billing address of credit card on file with Comcast (including zip code)
- Your date of birth (for account verification with Comcast)
Steps to cancel
To cancel your Comcast Cable account, call 800-266-2278. You will need to verify your account by providing your Comcast account number, the full name on the account, and the password set up for your account. You may also need to provide your full billing address, the last four digits of the credit card being billed, and the date of birth of the primary account holder. Request services to be terminated.
Comcast typically is a hassle-free cancellation. You may need to return equipment to your closest Comcast Cable location. There will generally be one final bill generated after the cancellation for services used prior to the cancellation date.
America Online, or AOL, is one of the original internet providers. In recent years, it has morphed itself into a media and internet provider offering a variety of services. If you choose to cancel your membership with AOL, we have a few tips for how to make this a streamlined process.
To get started on cancelling your America Online account, you will need:
- AOL Username
- AOL Password
- AOL Security Question
- AOL Security Question Answer
- Full name on file AOL account
- Address on file AOL account
- Alternative email address so we may contact you regarding your cancellation status
- Your Date of Birth
- Phone number of file with AOL
- Last 4 digits of Credit Card being billed.
- Type of card being billed (Visa, MC, Amex, etc.)
Steps to Cancel
Log into your AOL account. Click on the Accounts & Settings tab. Click on the Manage My Account tab. You will need to enter your account security question and click continue. Click Cancel. Subscriptions will appear. Under your current subscription or at the bottom of the page, click Cancel My Billing. Choose a reason for cancellation. Click Cancel My Billing.
You can also cancel by phone, by calling 1-888-265-8008.
They are open Mon – Fri 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sat: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. When you call the number, say “Cancellation,” then enter your 10-digit phone number that you used when you signed up. After providing your phone number, please wait for the automated voice to confirm. If you no longer recall your phone number, simply say “I don’t have it.”

Specify that you’re cancelling, give your full name, phone number, address and signature, and either the primary billing contact’s AOL screenname or the last four digits of the current payment method. Make sure they give you a confirmation number. And if AOL continues billing you, contact the webmaster at AOL Watch.
If you do not know your account security question and answer you will need to call and cancel.
There are certain AOL accounts that are set up without the option of phone contact. You will not be able to speak to a live person or receive any real help by calling. The best option you have on these accounts is to mail your request to cancel.
Localnet is a low-cost internet provider that does not require contracts to sign up for service. It’s a great option for transitional web access, but if you decide you’d like something more permanent, you can cancel the service in a few steps.
To get started on cancelling your Localnet account, you will need:
- LocalNet Account Number
- LocalNet Username
- LocalNet Password
- Reason for Cancellation
- Email address on file with LocalNet
- Full Name on file with LocalNet
- Address on file with LocalNet
- Security Question

Steps to Cancel
To cancel your LocalNet email account, log into your LocalNet email account, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
All cancellation requests must include your full name, username, and the reason you are cancelling.
If you do not have access to your email account you can call LocalNet at 1-888-488-7265 to cancel. You will need to have all account information.
Always follow up your cancel request email a week or so later with a phone call or simply by attempting to log into your LocalNet account. If you still have access to the account, then the cancellation has not yet taken place and you may need to make a phone call.
