About LA Fitness

Chinyol Yi and Louis Welch founded LA Fitness in Los Angeles, California in 1984. Throughout the mid-1990s, the company grew by acquiring underperforming fitness clubs in southern California, as well as developing, opening, and operating newly built properties. The company expanded outside of the United States in 2007 when it purchased six fitness clubs in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Pure Fitness Arizona sold the company ten locations in Phoenix in 2010. All but one of the former Pure Fitness locations were closed within a year. On November 30, 2011, the company completed the purchase of 171 clubs from Bally Total Fitness for $153 million. After that, LA Fitness began closing some former Bally Fitness locations near existing LA Fitness locations and remodeling others. The company completed the acquisition of all 33 Lifestyle Family Fitness Clubs in Florida on July 2, 2012. Stuart Lasher, CEO of Lifestyle, stated “We weighed the pros and cons of remaining an independent company versus selling to a larger corporation. The board of directors has decided to sell all of the Lifestyle Family Fitness clubs in Florida to LA Fitness after careful consideration.” LA Fitness announced the purchase of The Buffalo and Rochester Athletic Clubs in western New York on December 23, 2013. They completed the acquisition of all ten Vision Quest Sport and Fitness clubs in the greater Seattle area on December 30, 2013. Starting in 2018, LA Fitness will charge a separate fee for high-intensity interval training classes at certain renovated clubs, which will include Myzone heart rate monitors. LA Fitness rebranded several former LA Fitness locations as Esporta Fitness in early 2020, to compete with high volume price gyms such as Planet Fitness. Aqua Fit is a challenging water workout suitable for everyone, especially those suffering from joint pain or injury. The class begins with a gentle warm-up in the 79-85 degree water of the pool. Follow these steps:

  1. Prepare a written or typed letter and request cancellation within it. Provide all of your account info as listed. Sign and date the letter and Keep a copy for your records.
  2. Mail your letter, certified, to the address provided to you by the gym
  3. Call the phone number for the gym you signed up at or attended most frequently after your letter is received to ensure your account is cancelled
  4. Request that the agent provide you with a confirmation number or email
  5. Retain any confirmation numbers or emails you receive for your records
