About Trapcall

TrapCall is an app you can use to unmask blocked or unknown callers. They also allow for a more permanent blacklist solution and can automatically block robocalls. This subscription-based app offers a variety of privacy and protection features for each payment tier. After signing up, TrapCall instructs new users to reprogram their cell phones to send all rejected, missed, and unanswered calls to TrapCall’s number. When a blocked or restricted call shows up on a user’s cell phone, the user just presses the button on the phone that would normally send the call to voicemail. The call then loops through TrapCall’s systems where it’s unmasked, and then sent back to the user’s phone, with the caller’s number displayed as the Caller ID. All the while the caller hears a normal ring tone, oblivious to the fact that you know exactly who they are. Trapcall was founded by Eli Finkelman and Meir Cohen and Meir Cohen is now the president of TrapCall. Trapcall was launched on February 17, 2009, by its parent company, TelTech Systems Inc. Its headquarters are located at 555 W 18th Street, New York, NY 10011. TrapCall is only available in the United States and Puerto Rico. TrapCall was initially available to AT&T and T-Mobile users and is now available to Verizon Wireless customers. When you get a call from a blocked number, TrapCall will help you identify the caller with their patented technology. When you receive a call from a blocked number, just decline the call, and TrapCall will go to work. You will receive an incoming call revealing the blocked number. You will also receive a text alert with the caller’s details. The TrapCall App, which is available for iOS and Android, automatically blocks spam, telemarketers, and robot callers. Once you add a caller’s number to your block list, the caller will automatically receive a message that says, “The phone number you’re trying to reach has been disconnected or is no longer in service,” tricking the caller into thinking you either changed your number or it is no longer in service. TrapCall will then end the call, preventing the caller from leaving a voicemail. TrapCall has a database of over 100,000 numbers powered by RoboKiller, which is constantly being updated and works in conjunction with your personal block list. TrapCall also can record calls for whatever your needs are, whether it be for personal protection or to be used as evidence. After you decline the call, the number will ring back to your phone to begin recording the call. If you are in a state that requires both parties’ consent, a prerecorded warning message will play, stating, “The person you are calling has requested to record this call. Please stay on the line to be connected.” If you are in a state where only 1 of the party’s consent is required, you can disable this warning in your app settings by selecting the call recording switch and turning the play recording option off. What if a caller is using a spoofing app to create a fake number? No problem. TrapCall forces every caller to reveal their true phone number, keeping you protected so you know who’s calling you every time. Other features offered by TrapCall include missed call reminders and better voicemail, which includes voice-to-text messages. TrapCall’s voicemail system works with your existing voicemail. All voicemail messages are first sent to TrapCall and then to your voicemail to transcribe the voicemail. This allows TrapCall to transcribe your voicemail, a service your phone provider may not offer. In addition, TrapCall has a feature called Privacy Lock. TrapCall will ask unknown callers to identify themselves by stating their names. If you answer, you’ll hear their recorded name and have the option to accept, hang up, or send the call to voicemail. TrapCall offers a free 7-day trial to try it before you buy it. After the free 7-day trial is over and you want to subscribe you have 3 options. The first option is a basic membership. The basic membership is $5.99 per month and its features are call blocking and 10 reverse number lookups that provide names, addresses, and pictures. The second option is a premium membership.
