Linkedin is a worldwide business networking and employment-search oriented site, founded in December 2002 and launched in May 2003. The site was purchased by Microsoft in December of 2016. The site was founded by Reid Hoffman and multiple team members from PayPal and Socialnet.com and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA with satellite offices in 23 other cities worldwide, employing approximately 9200 individuals as of January 2016. As of April 2017, the site had 500 million members hailing from 200 countries throughout the world. Linkedin is primarily used for professional networking, with members able to post their resume when seeking employment and employers able to post about job openings and review information about potential candidates.

A basic membership and profile on the site is available for free and allows a user to build and maintain their network of professional connections, request and provide recommendations, receive messages, and save up to three separate employment searches. Three paid account types also exist. The JobSeeker profile level allows a user to send 5 messages per month with a guarantee that if one of those receives no response the credit will be refunded to the user, expanded profile viewing and 250 results outside of the user’s network when searching, and 15 introductions allowing your connections to introduce themselves to your other connection. Job Seeker profiles are $29.95 per month billed monthly or $24.95 per month when billed annually for a total of $299.40. The Business Plus plan increases to 10 mail credits per month, 500 out of network search results and 25 introductions for $49.95 per month billed monthly or $39.95 per month billed annually for a total of $479.40. Executive level plans increase to 25 mail credits per month, 700 out of network search results, and 35 introductions for $99.95 per month billed monthly, or $74.95 per month billed annually for a total of $899.40.
