Movie Pass is a subscription-based movie ticket service founded in 2011 by Stacy Spikes and Hamet Watt and headquartered in New York City. As of February 2018, Movie Pass reported 2 million subscribers to its service and announced plans to begin acquiring and distributing films under the brand subsidiary MoviePass Ventures. Members sign up with Movie Pass and are issued a prepaid debit card and a downloadable application for their smartphone. the app is used to check in to a participating movie theater and choose which available film the member wants to see, then the money for their ticket is automatically loaded to their prepaid debit card which can then be used to purchase the ticket. Movie Pass has a search function on their website to allow customers to search by zip code to see nearby participating theaters in their area. The available films are posted on the website as well and the selection rotates daily. The currently available subscription plan will cost members $9.95 per month and offers up to 3 movies per month included in the subscription cost. Additional tickets may be purchased at a discount which varies based on location and film up to $5.00. Members also receive invitations to special events and screenings. Movie Pass states both independent and blockbuster films are available at 91% of theaters in the USA. Plans do not have a minimum subscription term and can be cancelled at any time.
