Amazon Marketplace is a platform offered by Amazon for third-party sellers to sell new and/or used products. Amazon was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos. The headquarters are located in Seattle, Washington. Sales made through Amazon Marketplace make up over 30% of Amazon’s annual sales. Amazon Marketplace is ideal for smaller level businesses or wholesalers.
With Amazon Marketplace, you are able to reach the million monthly visitors that visit Amazon. You will gain access to Amazon’s customer base. You would be considered a third-party seller, meaning that the products that you sell would not be coming from Amazon directly. Items purchased through the Marketplace are fulfilled by you (the merchant) or Amazon. The items that are fulfilled by you will make you responsible for the inventory, shipping, and customer service. If you choose to use Amazon FBA services, Amazon will handle the inventory, shipping, and customer service. Amazon will store your items in the fulfillment centers. Your customers will need to contact Amazon’s customer service if they have product-related questions or general customer service concerns.
Amazon charges a monthly fee of $39.99 plus selling fees. You will be charged a referral fee for each sell. The referral fee is a percentage of the sale price. When fulfilling orders with Amazon FBA, you will be responsible for other fees such as picking, packing, and weight charge. All products and orders can be managed in the Seller Central on your Amazon Marketplace account.
