DTE Energy is an energy company based in Detroit. The company provides electricity services to 2.2 million customers in southeastern Michigan and natural gas service to 1.3 million customers in the state of Michigan. As of 2005, DTE maintained some 22 coal-fired generating stations in the state of Michigan. Electric service rates are variable, with the company stating that they have some 11 different rate plans to meet the various individual needs of customers. Natural gas pricing is impacted by various factors, which means the rates can fluctuate on a monthly basis.

Customers in the DTE service area can start, stop, or transfer service via the DTE website. Subscription terms can vary a bit between accounts since rate plans can differ depending on customers’ needs and chosen plan. Rates are published online via the DTE website for customers to view during or prior to their service agreement with DTE Energy. Natural gas service is handled in the same way, customers can sign up, cancel, or transfer their service by calling the company or via the DTE Energy website.

Customers can change or cancel their plans with DTE’s customer service and billing department, though the terms of cancellation may depend on the agreement that was chosen by the customer when initially signing up with DTE. Plans with a term agreement may convert to a month to month billing structure at the end of the agreement.
