e.Salon LLC, also known as eSalon, was founded in 2010 by Francisco Gimenez, Cory Rosenberg, Omar Mourad, Lisa Biscaichipy, and Tamim Mourad. eSalon originally offered hair color products specifically formulated to meet the customer’s needs and hair goals. ESalon has created over 260,000 unique formulas and counting. In 2014 eSalon expanded to offer other hair care products such as color enhancers, shampoos and conditioners, treatments, styling products, tools, and accessories.
eSalon uses two components to make the perfect hair color. First, using the color wheel, the colorist crafts the perfect color using shade, tone, and tint to the customer’s specifications. The Colorist references your photos of the customer’s current hair color and their goal hair color and the info they provide in their color profile to determine their base color. Then, eSalon can formulate less than ü shade differences in things like tone, warmth, and vibrancy all while factoring in the customer’s hair history and gray percentage to make their color unique to them. eSalon then inputs that formula into their patented technology, the Color Editor, to create a unique color formula ID. The Colorist then sends the customer’s color formula ID to eSalon’s one-of-a-kind machine, Polychrome, or Polly for short, which means many colors. Polly is capable of dispensing over 2.2 octooctogintillion pigment variations, all drawing from vats of color that have been custom formulated by eSalon’s experts on-site. Polly then prints that color formula ID, the customer’s name, and the date it was made on a label. That label gets placed onto an empty color bottle and travels down a conveyor belt to the dispenser. A little scanner reads the label and triggers the precise amount of varied pigments and toner to be dispensed into a bottle, down to a single drop. Each pigment dispensed is measured by weight (instead of volume like in most places) on a high-grade medical scale. Then, your bottle is capped, packaged, and sent to its homeapartment, office, or wherever the customer desires. In short, the process is The colorist formulates the color using the Color Editor. Polly prints the label and places it on an empty bottle. Polly dispenses the color formula into the bottle with precise pigments. the color is packed and shipped to the customer. Custom colors start at $26.
