About Cooking Channel

Cooking Channel is a basic cable channel in the United States owned by Food Network, a joint venture and general partnership between Warner Bros. Discovery Networks (69%) and Nexstar Media Group (31%). The channel is a Food Network spin-off that broadcasts food and cooking-related programming. Since January 2021, Cooking Channel has been available on both traditional cable television and Discovery+. Scripps announced the channel in 2001, and it debuted the following year as Fine Living (later Fine Living Network, FLN). The brand was aimed at high-income viewers who “want guidance in helping them spend their free time,” and it featured a mix of lifestyle and leisure-themed programming covering topics like travel and adventure, finance, real estate, “everyday pursuits,” and technology. Scripps positioned Fine Living as a multi-platform brand, launching a companion website and acquiring a 49% stake in a free-circulation magazine co-branded with the channel. Scripps planned to invest $100 million in original Fine Living programming. The network went live on August 21, 2002. Fine Living purchased primetime encores of the syndicated series The Martha Stewart Show in 2007. Later, the network added Whatever, Martha!, a comedy series starring her daughter Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Hutt riffing on Martha Stewart Living footage. Scripps Networks Interactive announced in October 2009 that Fine Living would be relaunched as Cooking Channel in 2010, following the Great Recession and a significant decline in American personal income and spending, which effectively prevented Fine Living Network from expanding its ratings or programming. The network would be a Food Network spin-off focused on educational and personality-based programming, which had been largely displaced by the growth of Food Network’s reality and competition programming. The network broadcasts both new and archived Food Network programming. Cooking Channel debuted on May 31, 2010, coinciding with the Memorial Day holiday, a month earlier than planned. Emeril Lagasse, Rachael Ray, and Bobby Flay were among the first to debut new Food Network shows, Emeril’s Fresh Food Fast, Week In a Day, and Brunch @ Bobby’s. Food(biography), hosted by Mo Rocca, and Extra Virgin, a combination reality TV series and cooking show, featured slice-of-life footage of actress Debi Mazar, her Italian chef husband Gabriele Cocoros, their two children, and various friends and family members. Robert Earl’s Be My Guest, a weekly series that debuted in September 2014, follows entrepreneur and restaurateur Robert Earl as he goes behind the velvet rope to share the best-of-the-best dining secrets and destinations. Unwrapped 2.0, a revival of the original Food Network series Unwrapped, premiered on Cooking Channel in February 2015. Haylie Duff, an actress, hosted The Real Girl’s Kitchen and Haylie’s America on the channel. Dinner at Tiffani’s, hosted by Tiffani Thiessen, Man Fire Food, hosted by Roger Mooking, and Food: Fact or Fiction? Tia Mowry at Home, hosted by Tia Mowry, Cheap Eats, hosted by Ali Khan, Carnival Eats, hosted by Noah Cappe, Rev Run’s Sunday Suppers, Unique Eats, Unique Sweets, and Donut Showdown. Cooks from Canada and the United Kingdom, such as Food Network Canada host David Rocco, who hosts the self-titled David Rocco’s Dolce Vita, and Irish chef Rachel Allen, who hosts Rachel Allen: Bake!, have shows airing on the Cooking Channel for the first time in the United States but have previously aired outside the country. The following Cooking Channel shows are either “first to air in the United States” or reruns from the Food Network library: Ace of Cakes, Bill’s Food, Bitchin’ Kitchen, Caribbean Food Made Easy, and Chuck’s Day Off, Chinese Food Made Easy, Cupcake Wars, Drink Up, and Easy Chinese San Francisco by Ching-He Huang are some of the titles available. Everyday Exotic, Everyday Italian with Giada De Laurentiis, FoodCrafters, Food Jammers, French Food at Home, Good Eats, Indian Food Made Easy, Iron Chef (original Japanese version), Iron Chef America, MasterChef Canada, Spice Goddess, Two Fat Ladies, and Tyler’s Ultimate, as well as previous Julia Child and Nigella Lawson-hosted programs. Fine Living was a Canadian version of FLN that aired from September 3, 2004, to October 19, 2009. A Canadian version of DIY Network took its place. Except for Poland, FLN, which debuted in 2010, replaced Zone Club in Europe. Fine Living was an Italian version of FLN that aired from March 26, 2014, to October 22, 2017. W Movies was replaced by a Canadian version of Cooking Channel on December 12, 2016. It is run by Corus Entertainment, which also runs the Canadian version of Food Network; Scripps Networks Interactive bought a minority stake in the channel after it debuted.
