Hello Fresh is a publicly-traded meal kit delivery service. Dominik Richter, Thomas Griesel, and Jessica Nilsson founded HelloFresh in Berlin, Germany, in November 2011. Richter and Griesel personally packed and delivered the first ten customers. It was one of the first companies in the meal-kit business. Rocket Internet, a German startup studio, initially funded them. Green Chef, a US organic meal-kit company, was acquired by HelloFresh in March 2018. HelloFresh Canada, based in Toronto, acquired Chefs Plate, a Canadian meal-kit company, in October 2018. Rocket Internet sold its remaining stake in HelloFresh to international institutional investors in 2019 through accelerated book building. As of the end of 2018, Rocket Internet owned 30.6% of HelloFresh.
